Our newest coffee, “Destroyer,” is based on the USS Michael Murphy (DDG-112), an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile Destroyer, named after Medal of Honor Recipient Navy SEAL Lieutenant Michael P. Murphy.

LT Murphy was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor after being killed in action during Operation RED WINGS, a 2005 counter-insurgent mission conducted in Kunar Province, Afghanistan and memorialized in the book and film, “Lone Survivor.” During this operation, LT Murphy served as the Commander of a four-man reconnaissance and surveillance team from SEAL Team 10 who were compromised and eventually surrounded by the Taliban. During the ensuing battle, LT Murphy left his covered position, knowingly exposing himself to intense enemy fire in order to get a clear signal and request immediate assistance for his team. Even after being shot multiple times, LT Murphy continued to transmit his position and situation, a selfless act of valor which symbolizes the greatest characteristics of our U.S. military warriors. The U.S. Navy ship and several civilian and military buildings have been named in his honor.
